BP invests in EV as consumer demand continues to increase for more sustainable alternatives

The Client

BP is a British multinational oil and gas company headquartered in London, England. It is one of the oil and gas "supermajors" and one of the world's largest companies measured by revenues and profits.

The Objective

BP aims to transform itself from a traditional fuel provider and shift towards electric vehicles in an effort to continue sustainable business growth.

The Solution

Leveraging our extensive connections and expertise, our team mapped the low carbon innovation landscape to identify the best electrification startups to help BP achieve its strategic goal. Through our guided process, BP selected FreeWire, the developer of a mobile fast-charging solution.

The Outcome

We guided the two companies through a pilot to validate FreeWire’s technology that resulted in BP investing $5 million in FreeWire to provide rapid charging at BP’s retail sites in Europe. Using FreeWire’s mobile system, BP can respond quickly and provide charging facilities wherever the demand is greatest without needing to make significant investments in today’s fixed technologies and infrastructure.
